Extreme concern about the dismantling of the MTC
This is an automated translation of the AFIN release originally published in Spanish.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications is responsible for connectivity in our country through various programs and projects, not only in the area of highways, subways, railways, airports, ports, but it is also the governing body and promoter of telecommunications.
Despite this fundamental role for the well-being of the population and for the competitiveness of our economy, the following has been happening in this portfolio:
- Since July 2021 we have had 5 ministers, 4 deputy ministers of communications and 5 deputy ministers of transport. For several months now, there has been no deputy minister of transport, this deputy ministry having been entrusted to the deputy minister of communications.
- News is circulating about a potential new change of deputy minister of communications.
- Each of these changes has also meant adjustments in the general management, the advisors and the technical teams.
- The MTC manages a budget of more than 10 billion soles and administers transport concession contracts for amounts of approximately 16 billion dollars, and an even larger amount in investments in communications.
- In Peru, 16.7% of the national road network and most of the regional and local network need to be paved. We also have a significant delay in airport investments and in other transport sectors, explained by the lack of action by the MTC and in terms of connectivity, there are still more than 3 million Peruvians not connected.
