Guyana identifies hydro developer replacement

Bnamericas

Guyana's President Donald Ramotar said a company has been identified to advance hydroelectric project Amaila Falls.

The company, whose name was not disclosed, will replace Sithe Global Power/Blackstone, which withdrew from the project in 2013.

"At the end of 2014, the road works to the hydro project site was 95 percent completed, and if all goes well, the road will be handed over by March of this year," government information agency GINA quoted Ramotar as saying.

The head of state highlighted the country's power export potential with 4GW in the upper Mazaruni river basin alone.

"From Brazil's Roraima state through Guyana, through Suriname, through French Guiana and back again to Brazil on the east that can allow us to develop our renewable energy resources."

Ramotar made the statements at the commissioning of a US$26mn power plant at Vreed-en-Hoop in Region Three for utility GPL.
