Brazilian mobile carriers are preparing to offer 4G LTE in São Paulo in the 700MHz spectrum band, in addition to the 2.5Ghz currently in use. The launch follows the switch-off of analog TV and the freeing-up of the corresponding 700MHz channels for mobile broadband use.
Claro said in a release it has just activated its own 4.5G 700MHz network in São Paulo, with transmissions beginning immediately upon compliance with all regulatory formalities, scheduled to be completed in the next few days. Claro's rivals TIM and Vivo are also expecting the green light to begin 700Mhz transmissions in the metropolis.
Claro was the first to launch commercial transmissions in the 700 MHz in Brazil, in Rio Verde in December 2015. Recently, after the due regulatory nods, Claro, TIM and Vivo activated 4G LTE in 700MHz in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Porto Alegre.
