IDB Invest Finances the Expansion of Electric Transmission Lines in Peru Alongside Consorcio Transmantaro
WASHINGTON – IDB Invest has granted a $76.1 million loan to Consorcio Transmantaro S.A., a company of ISA ENERGÍA in Peru, to finance the expansion of more than 250 kilometers of electric transmission lines through three projects located in Arequipa, Piura, and San Martín. This initiative will help enhance the reliability and resilience of the national power system.
The operation will support Peru in diversifying, strengthening, and modernizing its energy matrix by adding over 2.4 GW of projected new solar capacity in the south.
This investment also aims to improve the quality and stability of electricity service by facilitating the integration of new renewable energy projects in regions such as Arequipa and Piura. It will also reinforce the transmission network and improve electricity access in the Peruvian Amazon, boosting productivity and enhancing the quality of life for thousands of people in rural and vulnerable communities.
In addition to financing, IDB Invest will provide technical assistance in three areas: promoting access to renewable energy in rural Amazonian communities with a focus on productive development; aligning with international quality infrastructure standards through Blue Dot Network certification; and strengthening women’s leadership through its sustainability program “Huertos en Línea” (Online Gardens).
