IN BRIEF: Ecuador to open 248 computer labs by year-end
Ecuador's telecommunications and IT ministry Mintel plans to open 248 computer labs in schools in the country's Andes and Amazon regions during the last four months of the year.
With the new labs, the government will have opened 634 in the two regions in 2014 with an investment of US$19.4mn, according to a ministry statement.
The labs are equipped with computers, projectors and audio systems to support learning.
Since 2010, Mintel has invested US$45.3mn to open computer labs in 3,724 schools in the Andes and Amazon regions.
