Venezuela's state power company Corpoelec energized the principal 400kV transformer to begin equipment testing in the lead up to startup of the 600MW unit 6 at the Planta Centro thermoelectric plant in Carabobo state that currently boasts 2GW.
China Machinery Engineering is carrying out the unit 6 project, which is scheduled to come online in April or May, Corpoelec said in a statement.

Paraguay's state power company Ande launched an international call to supply capacity transformers as part of a World Bank-financed program to strengthen the country's power sector. Offers for the US$13mn contract are due March 8, according to bidding documents.

Brazil's power watchdog Aneel opened public consultation to discuss proposed changes to the regulation that governs investment in underground distribution lines. The regulator said that different municipal and federal proposals have been fielded related to criteria for companies to bury their lines in urban areas.
