Mexico and Chile star overseas OHL players

Bnamericas

Spanish construction and concession group OHL posted higher year-on-year quarterly sales following a strong overseas performance, particularly in Mexico and Chile.

Overall sales rose 2.8% to 787mn euros (US$1.08bn) in the first quarter, while Ebitda rose 12.2% to 280mn euros, the company said in a release.

Central America and South America accounted for 28.7% of OHL's sales.

Net income, however, fell 11.2% to 60.4mn euros compared to a year ago, when the company benefited from an increase in its stake in Spanish infrastructure and concession group Abertis.

In the first quarter, OHL won Mexico's Atizapán-Atlacomulco and Chile's Américo Vespucio Oriente highway concessions.

In its concessions division, toll road revenue grew 11% amid an increase in traffic and higher prices.
