Nicaragua aims to build interoceanic, interurban rail lines

The Nicaraguan government intends to build two railways, one to link Atlantic and Pacific ports and an interurban one to connect three cities.

Transport minister Óscar Mojica (in photo) made the announcement during a TV interview last week. Mojica said that one of the lines would run from Corinto port on the Pacific to a port that will be built in Bluefields on the Caribbean.

“We are moving towards that direction, and this is not a dream. We are making progress with our feet on the ground and in a solid way,” he said during the interview with Canal 8, according to news outlet Infobae.

Mojica added that the other line would link the cities of Managua, Masaya and Granada.

“This to provide a modern, efficient, and low-emission transportation service. We are two steps ahead, this is a project that we are working on towards a solid structuring with studies and financial designs,” he said, according to the same report.

Mojica did not provide information about costs or funding sources.
