Nicaragua launches tenders for Litoral del Pacífico highway

Nicaragua launched construction tenders related to the Litoral del Pacífico highway.

Process 2022-013001-000161/2022, published on procurement site Nicaraguacompra, involves stretch 3, Empalme El Coyol-Astillero (30km and five bridges), and stretch 5, Tupilapa-Masachapa (over 30km, seven bridges).

Proposals should be submitted to the transport and infrastructure ministry through February 28.

Process 2022-013001-000160/2022 involves stretch 1, El Naranjo-Playa El Remanso (30km, three bridges), and stretch 2, Playa El Remanso-San Juan del Sur-Empalme El Coyol (30km, three bridges).

Works must wrap up within 900 days.

According to a presentation from 2017, the highway will connect Masachapa and the border with Costa Rica to facilitate tourism and access to beaches.

Spanish company Peyco participated in the feasibility studies and design stage.

Planning started in the early 2000s and initially involved a 407km highway, which was scratched due to funding problems. In 2017, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), approved funds for a first stage in the departments of Managua, Carazo and Rivas.
