Peru grants new power concessions
Peru's energy and mines ministry has granted temporary hydroelectric, solar and wind power concessions for a combined 578MW.
Constructora Recife is behind the 459MW hydro Mayo I planned for San Martín region. Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Lúcuma (Egel) looks to develop the 19.4MW hydro Vilconata 5 in Cusco region.
Sowitec Operation Perú aims to install the 40MW solar park Repartición in Arequipa region, and Energías Eólicas del Perú (EEP) is behind the 60MW wind farm Colán in Piura region.
Constructora Recife filed the concession request in August, Egel in September, Sowitec in December and EEP in November. The companies have 24 months to carry out feasibility studies.
Mayo will target districts Pinto Recodo, Alfonso de Alvarado and Jepelacio, in provinces Lamas and Moyobamba; Vilconata will focus on districts Maranura and Santa Teresa, in province La Convención; Repartición will serve La Joya district and province, and Colán will target the namesake district in Paita province.
The ministry's general power department will cash in project deposits if developers fail to carry out the studies within the allotted timeframe.
