A public hearing is scheduled next month as part of permitting for a transmission project in Peru's central-southern regions of Ayacucho, Huancavelica and Junín.

The April 1 event will review Consorcio Transmantaro's EIS for 220kV line Friaspata-Mollepata, according to energy and mines ministry information.

The cabinet approved a bill – due to be presented to congress shortly – that would allow the export of surplus electricity to neighboring countries. A limited-capacity link already exists with Ecuador.

"Peru has surplus energy production and it is forecast that over the next five or seven years this will remain the case," deputy energy minister Raúl Pérez-Reyes said in a ministry statement.

The country's installed capacity grew 9% in 2015 to 12,252MW and 1,800MW is expected to come online this year.

Work to complete the first phase of Peru's Alto Piura multipurpose hydro project Peihap was pushed back to April 15 on account of landslides caused by heavy rainfall, Peihap reported.
