Peru updates US$5.3bn reconstruction plan for regions hit by El Niño
Peru’s reconstruction authority RCC has amended its investment plan for the regions that were affected by the devastating 2017 El Niño floods, which outlines a total of nearly 19.8bn soles (US$5.3bn) for education, housing, water, road, hospital and agriculture projects.
On Friday, the RCC formalized the creation of three new offices under its housing, construction and sanitation unit to take charge of housing projects, road projects and monitoring activities, respectively.
As a result, four projects involving investments of around 59mn soles (US$16mn) will be shifted between the different units, the office said in a note in the government’s official gazette on Monday.
Other modifications include the exclusion of 19 projects entailing investments of 17.2mn soles (US$4.6mn) from the overall plan, as well as adding two road projects worth a combined 556,000 soles.
The RCC is also executing US$2bn in hospital, school and water investments through a government-to-government agreement with the UK.
