Private port terminal operators to invest US$500mn in Brazil
Three operators of private ports in Brazil are planning to invest a total of 1.91bn reais (US$472mn) in their terminals in the next three years.
Investing the most is Bahia Terminais, which is building a facility in Bahia state's Candeias city. It will invest 850mn reais in a 286,700m2 terminal that will have the capacity to handle 3.62Mt of general cargo a year, ports department SEP said in a release.
Local engineering group WTorre, through its port terminal operator WPR São Luís Gestão de Portes e Terminais, is investing 780mn reais to build its terminal in Maranhão state capital São Luís. It will handle liquid and solid bulk, as well as general cargo, and have handling capacity of 24.5Mt/y.
Finally, local logistics company Nutripetro will invest 279mn reais in a port terminal in Espírito Santo state's Aracruz city. It will be able to handle general cargo and bulk liquids with capacity of 1.2Mm3/y, the release said.
