Sacyr and ISA Vías strengthen their position in Chile with new concessions

Sacyr and ISA Vías strengthened their positioning in Chile with the award of two new road concessions worth around US$1.200 billion (bn), expanding their presence in the country’s highway infrastructure.

Spain’s Sacyr received the award of the Ruta Pie de Monte road concession for US$355 million (mn), while Intervial Chile, which operates under the ISA Vías brand, was awarded the Ruta 5 Río Bueno–Puerto Montt section concession for US$821mn.

The Ruta Pie de Monte concession includes the construction, operation, and maintenance of a 20km dual carriageway between San Pedro de la Paz and Coronel, to the east of the current Route 160, in the Biobío region.

The company expects revenues over the course of the concession of 3.765bn euros (US$4.275bn).

The project includes state-of-the-art infrastructure, as well as lighting, sanitation and drainage works, landscaping, road safety and a free-flow electronic toll collection system.

Sacyr currently operates 11 concessioned routes in Chile, as well as airports, hospitals, and water infrastructure.

The most recent concessions correspond to a €1.500mn project for the Route 68: Santiago-Valparaíso-Viña del Mar; the concession for the Ruta del Itata Highway for €516mn; the Route 66 Highway–Camino de la Fruta for 640mn euros; and Route 5: Los Vilos–La Serena section for 369mn euros.

The Ruta 5 Río Bueno-Puerto Montt Section project awarded to ISA Vías will make it possible to modernize 121km of Route 5 Sur and includes improvements to the route’s lighting and drainage system, a comprehensive update of road safety, CCTV cameras interconnected with the police, new service and emergency areas, the sale of typical local products, and the implementation of the electronic toll collection system in multi-lane free flow or electronic tolling mode.

The company is also building the new Ruta Orbital Sur, a US$539mn project for the construction and subsequent operation of a new 24km-long highway that will run through the municipalities of Peñaflor, Calera de Tango and San Bernardo.

ISA Vías intends to invest US$2.9bn by 2040 both in already awarded concessions and in new opportunities in the country.
