São Paulo city kicks off US$200mn repaving program
São Paulo city is starting this month a 1bn-real (US$205mn) program to repave streets.
The program will last until 2024 and the city seeks to repave a total of 20mn square meters of roads, the government of Brazil's largest city said in a statement.
The roads can be seen at this link to the city’s official gazette.
"Unlike previous actions, in which the pavement restoration was standardized and uniform, an assessment of the existing paving is carried out through surveys and inspections, which allow the application of customized asphalt for each road. The materials are the same as those used in Europe, Germany, Sweden and England, and have advantages such as high resistance to deformation, longer service life and skid resistance," it said.
Asphalt price hikes are one of the main concerns of highway builders.
PARKS
São Paulo city hall also said it intends to restore the waterfront of the Guarapiranga reservoir.
It intends to offer concessions for seven parks along the waterfront and structure a PPP to manage the Santa Paula yacht club.
The local administration projects that the park concessions will generate investments of 21mn reais and another 468mn reais will be used for maintenance during the 25-year concession period.
The parks are Guarapiranga, Barragem da Guarapiranga, Praia do Sol, Linear Castelo, Linear Nove de Julho, Linear São José and Praia São Paulo.
The public consultation on the concessions and the PPP is open until July 5 and the documents can be accessed here and here.
