This is a machine translation of the original Petroperú release published in Spanish.

The chairman of the board of directors of Petroperú, Humberto Campodónico Sánchez, accompanied by the directors Carlos Vives Suárez and Luis Gonzales Talledo, as well as the general manager, Cristina Fung Quiñones, verified in situ the progress in the gradual and progressive start-up testing process of the New Talara Refinery in Piura.

As part of this process - which began on April 12 - the Spanish company Técnicas Reunidas delivered the Primary Distillation Unit to Petroperú, after successfully completing the guarantee tests at its maximum load capacity, demonstrating the stability and reliability of the equipment, obtaining products with the required specifications and quality. With this, the starting point of the refining process and the production of diesel, gasoline, aviation fuel and residuals is marked.

The delivery of the aforementioned unit was sealed with the signing of the certificate of acceptance of guarantee tests at maximum operating capacity, by the representatives of Técnicas Reunidas, Petroperú and the PMC Talara Consortium (CPT).

“We are complying with the gradual and progressive start-up schedule. We have just received the certified Primary Distillation Unit and in the next few days the tests of the Vacuum Distillation Unit will begin, hoping to continue in the following months with the other units of the New Talara Refinery, with a view to putting it into commercial operation in November, if there is no unforeseen event,” said Campodónico.

During the working visit to Talara, they met with the representatives of Técnicas Reunidas and the Petroperú team in charge of the New Talara Refinery, with the aim of coordinating the following activities to be carried out as part of the schedule for the start-up of the modern refining complex in the north of the country. It should be noted that this process is directed by Petroperú's main contractors, as well as the licensors of the technologies used.

The gradual and progressive start-up tests will continue to be carried out with experienced personnel from the Técnicas Reunidas and Cobra contracting companies, as well as from the licensing companies Honeywell, Axens, UOP, Haldor Topsoe and Exxon Mobil. Also participating in these activities are the international supervision consortium CPT, the consortium specializing in starting ODI and the different manufacturers of the multiple pieces of equipment that are part of this new refining complex.

For his part, Carlos López Risueño, Director of Projects at Técnicas Reunidas, highlighted the completion of the guarantee tests of the Primary Distillation Unit, a plant that has behaved within expectations in terms of technology, safety and quality, and which will be very useful in the refining process of heavy and light crude oils.

In the coming months, according to the start-up schedule, the refinery will be able to process 95,000 barrels of crude oil per day to produce clean fuels with a maximum of 50 parts per million sulfur, thus contributing to improving air quality and the health of all Peruvians.

Petroperú's New Talara Refinery has 16 process units and five packages of auxiliary units and complementary services, two liquid loading docks and 21 new storage tanks, being one of the most modern deep conversion refineries on the southern Pacific coast and one of the nine refineries in the world that has a Flexicoking unit, a waste conversion technology that maximizes liquid yields and minimizes the production of petroleum coke.
