Dominican Rep: The launch of a geochemical study to detect hydrocarbons begins at the MEM

This MEM release was published using machine translation.

In this study, which aims to complete the information that the Dominican Republic has on sediments, samples of rocks and fluids with hydrocarbons in terrestrial sedimentary basins will be collected, they will be characterized in the laboratory and later experts in the area of hydrocarbon exploration will carry out their analysis. interpretation.

This geochemical study will start today the sample collection phase that will last approximately 2 months. The Geolog experts, headed by Andrea Guglielmetti and César Lugo, regional manager for Latin America and Expert in Evaluation and Geological Formations, respectively, presented the methodology to be followed and the safety, health and environmental protocol with which they will be collected; They will also treat and store the samples prior to their shipment to the laboratory for their characterization and subsequent generation of interpretation reports.

The Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons, Walkiria Caamaño, was present at the meeting, who said that "the realization of this study comes to support the efforts made by the country to increase the geological knowledge of our terrestrial sedimentary basins, thus reducing the uncertainty perceived by the companies exploration of hydrocarbons and, at the same time, support future competitive processes for assigning areas for the exploration and production of oil and gas in the country”.

"The Geolog company will be carrying out a survey of samples in different basins of the national territory for about two months, which will be taken to the corresponding laboratories for analysis and interpretation, whose final results will be in about 8 months," explained Vice Minister Caamaño, by highlighting that this process has the support of the technical team of the Vice Ministry of Hydrocarbons.

Additionally, they were present: Miguel Díaz, Vice Minister of Mines; Jesús Rodríguez, in charge of Geological Resources and Yenny Rodríguez, in charge of the Hydrography department of the National Geological Service, accompanied by their technical support team; Nisael Dirocie, Director of Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production; Joan Fernández, director of Import Regulation and Use of Hydrocarbons, the MEM team of geologists and the Geolog team of geologists.
