Brazil, Argentina IoT associations team up

Bnamericas

Brazilian IoT association Abinc and Argentina's internet chamber Cabase have signed a cooperation agreement to integrate the two countries' IoT ecosystems, bolster the exchange of experiences in the field and enhance one-on-one deals between members of each of the institutions.

The initiative vows to fine-tune the position of both Brazilian and Argentine enterprises when it comes to IoT regulation.

"Both countries have active associations involved in all phases of IoT development. As we face the same challenges in relation to regulation, industrial and import policies, the joint work seeks to accelerate the process of adopting IoT in all verticals, especially in industry, services and agriculture," Abinc president Flavio Maeda said in a statement.

Cabase's head Anthony Harris considers the agreement an important step to strengthen IoT implementation in the region by "making it possible to combine the technological advances of Brazilian and Argentine IoT companies."

Maeda and Harris were invited as speakers at the panel "IoT and connectivity in South America" during the IoT Evolution Expo conference, to take place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, next week, Abinc said.

Cisco forecast in 2014 that by 2020 about 25bn devices will be integrated into smart systems worldwide, serving 4bn people and making available around 50tn gigabytes of data.

IoT is expected to reach a US$19tn market value over the next decade, according to Cisco's projections, US$860bn of which will be in Latin America. Brazil would lead the region with US$352bn, followed by Mexico with US$197bn, Argentina with US$79bn and Colombia with US$64bn.

According to IDC forecasts, worldwide IoT spending is forecast to reach US$745bn this year, up 15.4% over the amount spent in 2018, with Mexico (28.3% CAGR), Colombia (24.9% CAGR) and Chile (23.3% CAGR) leading the spending growth.
