Telefónica launches LTE-A in Peru
Telefónica has launched 4G LTE and LTE Advanced services in Peru using the 700MHz and AWS bands.
The company demonstrated download speeds of 250 Mbps with an LTE-A network with carrier aggregation leveraging the 700MHz and AWS bands.
This is the third LTE-A network in Latin America after AT&T Mobility in Puerto Rico and Entel, which launched in May.
Telefónica only officially received its block C of 700MHz spectrum last Wednesday, after having been awarded a concession in the band along with América Móvil and Entel Perú.
Telefónica has committed to connect 195 localities to 4G during the first five years of operation.
The service has been activated in Coishco in the northern Ancash region and in certain areas of Puente Piedra, San Juan de Lurigancho and Aguaytía in the inland region of Ucayali.
Telefónica operates in Peru under the Movistar brand and MVNO Tuenti and has 22mn accesses.
