Nineteen consortiums compete for Lima bus corridor tender
Nineteen consortiums have submitted economic and technical bids for the concession of five new bus corridors in Peruvian capital Lima, according to state news agency Andina.
Originally 21 companies had prequalified for the concession, which foresees an estimated investment of between US$800mn and US$1bn.
The corridors are intended to fit the city's vision of an integrated urban public transport system by connecting stages I and II of Lima's Metropolitano bus rapid transit system (BRT) and the Tren Eléctrico rail system.
The corridors will be built along the Panamericana Norte highway, the Carretera Central highway and avenues Javier Prado-La Marina, Tacna-Garcilaso-Arequipa and San Juan de Lurigancho-Abancay.
As many as 5mn citizens will benefit from the five new bus corridors, which will include the acquisition of 5,300 ecologically friendly buses.
Lima's transport authority ProTransporte will announce those whose economic and technical bids qualify on January 14 and award the tender January 27.
