Nicaragua's investment promotion agency ProNicaragua is this year looking to boost the development of infrastructure projects under public-private partnership (PPP) models.
This is according to executive director Carlos Zarruck, who presented the agency's development plan for 2018 at a press conference in capital Managua.
Based on the plan, the agency will focus on promoting investments in infrastructure, as well as the energy, agribusiness, environment, manufacturing, tourism, and mining sectors.
The promotion efforts will focus on projects located in the country's free economic zones, such as the Caribbean region, which according to Zarruck has significant development potential.
ProNicaragua will therefore promote the development of PPP projects for infrastructure and tourism in the area near the Caribbean coast, government news portal El 19 Digital reported.
The agency will focus investments to tackle the region's water and sanitation problems.
As for specific infrastructure projects, ProNicaragua will continue promoting those initiatives considered to be high-priority, such as the Costanera highway and proposed projects for the Pacific and Caribbean ports.
In addition, promoting opportunities in the development plans for Fonseca Gulf will also be part of ProNicaragua's agenda this year.
Another goal for ProNicaragua to make administrative procedures easier and contribute to the creation of better communication channels between the public and private sectors.
