The Estreito hydroelectric power station will have a commercial capacity of 256.9MW, and eight 135.9MW generator units. The project generate nearly 10,000 direct jobs and approximately 25,000 indirect jobs during the construction phase. On December 2009, Tractebel Energia, the Brazilian arm of European utility giant GDF Suez, bought the 40% stake held by Suez Energia Renovável in the project. Tractebel holds a 40.1% stake in the Estreito complex, located on the Tocantins river in Brazil's north. The balance is held by Alcoa (25.5%), Vale (30%) and Camargo Corrêa Energia (4.4%).
