Aegea Saneamento formalized, this Tuesday (12/02), the signing of the financing of US$ 140 million with the bank Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to accelerate the universalization of sanitary sewage in Mato Grosso do Sul. The investments, which will make it possible to expand sewage coverage from 60% to 94% of the state before 2028, will be directed to the Public–Private Partnership that the group operates in the state through MS Pantanal in partnership with Sanesul.

The new contribution will boost the execution of the works, which foresee the implementation of 2,600 km of collection network, the connection of 344 thousand properties to the sewage system, the construction of 311 Sewage Pumping Stations (EEE) and the expansion of the treatment capacity of the Sewage Stations to 882 liters per second, directly benefiting the 68 municipalities served in Mato Grosso do Sul.

The resource inaugurates a new level of agility and efficiency in the execution of the works, strengthening operational quality and positioning the state among the main highlights in the country in the advancement of sanitation. The investment expands the capacity for modernization of infrastructure and technologies applied to the sector, driving improvements in public health, the environmental preservation of the Pantanal biome, and regional development.

Progress in sanitation reinforces protection of the Pantanal

Since the start of operations in 2021, Ambiental MS Pantanal has recorded significant progress in sewage collection and treatment. The annual volume jumped from 13.9 billion liters to 25 billion liters in September 2025, growth that reinforces the direct impact of sanitation on public health and the environmental balance of the state.

In the accumulated total for the period, the concessionaire prevented more than 131.4 billion liters of sewage from reaching rivers, streams, and water sources that are part of the hydrographic basin that irrigates and sustains the unique biodiversity of the Pantanal. The result represents a concrete barrier against the degradation of water resources and against the contamination of sensitive ecosystems.

The progress of sewage services in Mato Grosso do Sul is directly aligned with the goals of the New Legal Framework for Basic Sanitation (Law No. 14,026/2020), which establishes the universalization of services by 2033. With the support of Aegea, the state is advancing strategically, combining technical efficiency, socio-environmental responsibility and integrated water resources management, fundamental pillars for sustainable development.

Sanitation advances in the State Capital

In Campo Grande, the city has already reached, eight years ahead of schedule, the targets established by the New Legal Framework for Sanitation, an achievement that places it among the most advanced Brazilian capitals in universalizing access to treated water and sewage services, the municipal city hall has signed a term of recognition of the deliveries made by the concessionaire in recent years, which sought the universalization of sewage services in the Capital, beyond what was planned.

Águas Guariroba, a company that is also part of the Aegea Saneamento group, which operates under a full concession model, providing both water and sewage services, has also reinforced its commitment to new targets through 2028, when Campo Grande will reach 98% coverage of treated sewage. 99% of the population, equivalent to more than 953 thousand people, already have access to quality water, and 94% have sewage collection and treatment, transforming the urban, social, and environmental reality of the Capital of Mato Grosso do Sul.
