Brazil to incorporate ESG into infrastructure agenda
Brazil’s infrastructure ministry signed two cooperation agreements to advance the incorporation of environmental, social and governance factors into its infrastructure agenda.
One agreement relates to data exchange and joint project creation with Universidade de São Paulo and one to the hiring of a specialized consultancy to support the creation of an ESG program.
"The infrastructure ministry in fact seeks to always be aligned with the best international practices, and we hope that the partners see us as great allies in this search for a more sustainable agenda," deputy executive infrastructure secretary Alan Lopes said in a press release.
The efforts come as infrastructure projects have attracted a growing number of international investors, including investment and pension funds, some of which cannot invest if ESG practices are not respected.
