Brazil's BNDES to invest up to US$190mn in infra investment funds of Vinci Partners

Brazil’s development bank BNDES will inject up to 1bn reais (US$190mn) in two infrastructure investment funds of local asset management firm Vinci Partners.

The investments of up to 500mn reais each will be made via equity arm BNDESPar in Vinci Crédito FI-Infra Institucional RF and Vinci Climate Change FIP Multiestratégia (VICC), BNDES said in a press release.

“With these two new investments, BNDESPar, which has already invested 1.4bn reais in 10 infrastructure funds, shows itself of being an anchor investor capable of increasing the entry of national and foreign investors in Brazil’s infrastructure sector," said Bruno Laskowsky, BNDES director of investments, capital markets and credit. 

VICC will invest the funds in renewable energy, water and basic sanitation projects, while Vinci Crédito will invest in renewable energy and transmission, basic sanitation, logistics and transportation, urban mobility, and telecommunications projects.

BNDES said it expects its investment to help attract 2bn reais from other investors to the same funds.

Founded in 2009, Vinci Partners is focused on alternative investments with 63bn reais in assets under management.
