Brazil’s Marília to tender sanitation concession

Marília municipality, in São Paulo state, has published the tender notice for the concession of its sanitation services.

The auction for the 35-year contract is scheduled for March 21 next year, the Brazilian municipality said in the notice.

Consortiums will be allowed to participate in the auction and these can contain up to three companies.

The city has a population of around 240,000 people and it is projected to reach 398,692 in 2055, when the concession contract ends.

The tender notice, in Portuguese, can be seen using this link.

The recent years have seen local governments in Brazil launch a large number of concessions for their sanitation services after a regulation, which was approved in mid-2020, facilitated the participation of private firms.

The regulation also forces these governments to ensure that their populations have full access to sanitation services by 2033, or risk losing federal funding as a penalty.
