Brief: Ecuador relaxes insurance rules for state companies

Ecuador's executive branch has told the body that coordinates the country's state companies that they can now purchase insurance from private insurers.

The move comes 10 years after then-president Rafael Correa (pictured) ordered public entities to use only state insurer Seguros Sucre, local paper El Universo reported.

At the time, Correa said the decision was to help ensure that "money stayed in the public sector."
