CFE awards contract for El Sauz modernization

Mexico's state power company CFE has awarded a contract for modernization works at the El Sauz combined cycle plant in Querétaro state, the company said in a statement. The winning bid came from a consortium formed by Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, ACS Servicios, Comunicaciones y Energía de México and Dragados Industrial. The consortium presented an economic proposal of US$150mn for the contract, which is designed to guarantee a reliable power source for industrial activity in the region. Installation of a gas turbine, adjustments to the existing steam turbine and an extension to the cooling tower are all covered by the contract. The project will bring the combined cycle unit up to 219MW installed capacity. The works must be executed within 827 days from the date of the award, April 1.
