CFE ramps down thermo output as hydro recovers

Mexico's national power utility CFE decreased output from thermo generators in September as hydro power recovered from a slump, notching its highest monthly output in more than a year.

CFE generated 22.0TWh in September, down from 24.4TWh in August and 22.5TWh in the year-ago month as it enters the lower consumption months of the fall and winter.

Thermo power accounted for 77.2% (17.0TWh) of the generation mix in September, down from 82.3% (20.1TWh) in August and 84.0% (18.9TWh) in the year-ago month.

Hydro recorded its highest share of the mix and highest gross output in more than a year in September at 16.2% and 3.56TWh compared to 10.5% (2.57TWh) in August and 13.1% (2.94TWh) in September 2012.

Nuclear accounted for 4.19% (923GWh) of the September mix and geothermal 2.22% (489GWh).
