CFE watch: August generation, demand, storm repairs

Mexican national utility CFE increased thermo generation slightly year-on-year in August while hydro output stayed below year-ago levels, according to the latest figures from the firm. CFE's gross power generation in August was 24.4TWh, up from 23.7TWh in July and flat from the year-ago month. Thermo output accounted for 82.2% of the mix (20.1TWh) in August compared to 82.3% (19.5TWh) in July and 81.4% (19.9TWh) in August 2012. Hydro power represented 10.5% of the monthly mix (2.57TWh) compared to 11.0% (2.61TWh) in July and 15.1% (3.69TWh) in the year-ago month. Nuclear power accounted for 4.22% (1.03TWh) of the August mix, up from 3.96% (939GWh) in July and 1.33% (325GWh) in August 2012, when it was undergoing upgrades. Geothermal output in August was 522GWh and wind 174GWh. *** CFE recorded power demand of 19.2TWh last month compared to 18.9TWh in July and 19.0TWh in the in August 2012. Industrial consumers accounted for 57.6% of sales, residential 28.3%, commercial 6.31%, agriculture 4.06% and services the remainder. CFE had 37.1mn customers at end-August, up 2.88% from 36.1mn a year ago. *** And more than 99.5% of customers who lost power during Hurricanes Ingrid and Manuel have had service reestablished, CFE said via its Twitter account. Of the 830,406 clients affected by the storms, 826,944 have been reconnected. The firm also noted that customers in 12 states affected by Ingrid and Manuel have been given a two-month grace period for paying electric bills.
