Chile's Chilectra registers capacity demand record
Chilean power distributor Chilectra recorded its highest-ever capacity demand in the company's Santiago metropolitan region concession zone at 2.94GW on Thursday.
The figure topped the utility's previous record for the area from July 2013 by 9.8%, the utility said in statement.
Chilectra attributed the demand to increased use of electric home heating equipment, boosted by an unusually cold start to the Chilean winter that included snow on Wednesday and below-freezing temperatures on Friday.
Total consumer demand also reached a record of 53.7GWh on Wednesday, beating the August 2013 record of 52.3GWh.
Chilectra serves 1.7mn clients in 33 of the region's districts.
