Colombian gas supply guaranteed, says group

Natural gas supply in Colombia is guaranteed for the coming years through projects under development, according to Eduardo Pizano, president of the country's natural gas association Naturgas.
At an event, Pizano highlighted construction of the Cartagena regasification plant, which is due ready in the fourth quarter and will initially supply thermoelectric generators with up to 400Mf3/d.
Pizano, who pointed to greater thermopower production due to weather phenomenon El Niño, said power producers pay 320 pesos (US$0.95) to generate a kilowatt hour with natural gas, versus 530 pesos with liquid fuel.
He also highlighted work being carried out by Canacol Energy and Equión Energía, offshore discoveries Orca 1 and Kronos, and Drummond's environmental license to produce coalbed methane.
Also from Colombia's energy sector, mining energy planning unit UPME launched bidding to design, build, operate and maintain 110kV transmission lines Cuestecitas-Riohacha and Riohacha-Maicao in La Guajira.
The infrastructure falls under the government's Plan5Caribe to optimize and shore up dispatch in the Caribbean area, the country's second largest load center.
And the finance ministry authorized state transmission company ISA to sign a loan with Banco BBVA Colombia for up to 250bn pesos to help finance ISA's 2016 investment plan.
