Dohwa has 'high probability' of winning El Salvador's Los Chorros supervision contract
South Korean company Dohwa Engineering is likely to be awarded the construction supervision contract for El Salvador’s US$400mn Los Chorros highway, according to the public works and transport ministry (MOPT).
On Monday, minister Romeo Rodríguez said Dohwa presented the lowest bid at US$12.4mn, while that of a consortium comprising Pyungh Engineering and Spain's Intecsa-Inarsa was US$15.3mn.
“Dowha presented the lowest offer, which means that they have the highest score and have a high probability of becoming the winner,” said Rodríguez in a TV interview aired on YouTube.
“I cannot say that the contract has been awarded because I would need the report first, but there is a really high probability that this company will win it.”
On April 10, the government reported that the construction contract was awarded to South Korea’s Dongbu Corp, which was the only bidder in that process.
Under the terms of a loan granted by Korea Eximbank, along with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), the government was required to pick Korean companies for the project.
For the supervision contract, the bids were submitted more than three months ago.
