El Salvador launches renewables call
El Salvador issued an international call for bids to supply 100MW of renewable energy for 20 years.
Delsur is coordinating the process on behalf of fellow distributors AES Clesa, B&D, Caess, Deusem, Edesal and EEO that seeks 60MW photovoltaic (PV) and 40MW wind. BNamericas announced the prelaunch in September.
Participants must pay a US$5,650 registration fee by February 14 with an information meeting scheduled for January 15 and economic offers due April 7. Information in Spanish is available here.
Other power supply calls underway in the country are for 15MW, 300MW and 355MW.
METRICS
Hydro accounted for 45.9% of the 543GWh injected into El Salvador's national grid in October compared to 48.2% in the year-ago month when 530GWh were delivered, according to power market administrator Unidad de Transacciones.
October thermo output represented 20.8% of supply, geothermal 19.9% and imports 10.7% versus 29.6%, 20.1% and 1.4% year-on-year. Exports slid to 2.9GWh from 13.2GWh.
This October, CEL and LaGeo were the sole hydro and geothermal generators, respectively, and Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) the principal thermo operator.
Maximum capacity demand and consumption in October 2013 totaled 968MW and 515GWh compared to 944MW and 505GWh in the year-ago month.
October 2013 service interruptions totaled 217 versus 189 year-on-year and transmission losses grew 30.8% to 10.2GWh.
