The head of Brazil's telecoms regulator contradicts the country's communications minister, who had nominated a close aide after stating that Juarez Quadros did not wish to remain at the helm.
Dubbed "DSO Atibaia," the initiative is part of a US$30mn investment, Elektro CEO Giancarlo Souza said in a press conference at the Futurecom tech event in São Paulo.
The Mexican company expects to finalize the process of selling its fiber optics network by 1Q19, its CEO said in a conference call.
The company recently announced it intends to offer satellite broadband services to rural and difficult to reach areas of Mexico.
The operator said it will build 86 new base stations and upgrade another 28 existing sites for US$8mn to accelerate the deployment of 4G and 4.5G services.
The company is also pushing for a migration of the country's security services radio network to a proprietary technology standard.
The prototype developed with energy group Galp was finished this year as part of a three-year research project to create an AI-based advisory tool to help geoscientists enhance seismic interpretation.
