Hydro the big winner in Panama power supply call

Panama’s state-owned power transmission company Etesa has awarded power purchase agreements (PPAs) to help cover the demand of distributors in the short and medium.
BNamericas previously reported that 30 generators had submitted offers to supply firm capacity and energy to Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica Metro-Oeste (Edemet), Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica Chiriquí (Edechi) and Elektra Noreste (Ensa).
Of the 22 offers that secured PPAs, 11 were hydro, six bunker fuel, three light diesel and two solar.
The hydro winners are Caldera Energy, Empresa Nacional de Energía, Fountain Hydro Power, Generadora del Istmo, Hidro Boquerón, Hidroiberica, Hidroecológica del Teribe, Ideal Panamá, Istmus Hydro Power, Las Perlas Norte and Las Perlas Sur.
The thermal producers that landed contracts are Autoridad del Canal de Panamá, Celsia Centroamérica, Generadora del Atlántico, Pedregal Power, Pan-Am Generating, Sparkle Power and Tropitérmica.
And Gena Solar and Solar Boqueron picked up PPAs for dispatch from photovoltaic parks.
Etesa has authorized the distributors and power producers to sign the PPAs which will run from March 1, 2023 to February 28, 2026. The award details and pricing are available here, in Spanish.
Participation for firm capacity was open to thermoelectric generators, while the energy component was open to renewable power producers (hydro, solar and wind).
