ICE advances with LTE infrastructure expansion

Costa Rican state-run operator ICE expanded its LTE infrastructure footprint by installing 452 pieces of equipment between July of last year and the same month this year.

The ICE said in a press release that areas with higher population density receive more investments in technology. The province of San José received the most LTE infrastructure investments, as almost 200 pieces of equipment were installed in this province. However, the telco did not specify any figures.

In addition to modernizing its 4G LTE network, ICE is improving its GSM networks so that both technologies can be simultaneously available. This allows users to reach higher data transmission speeds.

ICE launched its 4G LTE network in 2014 with 127 sites in the country's capital. The telco's mobile brand Kölbi was the first operator in the country to offer LTE mobile services.
