IDC Brasil points out that 70% of Brazilian IT companies trust that elections will bring positive or neutral impacts to the market this year-end

São Paulo, November 11, 2022 – Brazilian information technology companies are optimistic about the end of 2022 and the year ahead, regardless of the presidential elections in the country. For approximately 70% of companies, the lawsuit will have a neutral (26.5%) or positive (43.4%) impact on the segment, and only about 30% believe in bad consequences - with 26.5% fearing light and 3.6% large losses. The information is part of the study carried out in September by IDC Brasil, a leader in market intelligence, consulting services and conferences with the Information Technology and Telecommunications industries.

Another data that reflects the confidence of the sector is that about 83% of the companies interviewed will maintain or increase the IT budget from 2022 to 2023. Of the total number of companies consulted, 33.7% believe in a real increase in the amounts provisioned, 49, 4% are betting on maintaining or correcting the budget and only 16.9% are betting on a reduction in their investments.

Regarding the spending model, IDC asked respondents whether the largest share of growth in the company's IT budget will be directed towards CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) or OPEX (Operational Expedinture). Investment directed to OPEX appears with 31.3% and was the most mentioned by manufacturing companies, while CAPEX was highlighted by 28.9%, mainly by finance companies. The remaining 39.8% believe in a balance between the expenses of the two segments.

Regarding the business initiatives with the greatest influence on the direction of IT investments in 2023, the top 5 was designed as follows: increasing the organization's productivity (39.8%); create or improve products and services (34.9%); take greater advantage of data to generate new revenue (33.7%); improve customer acquisition and retention (31.3%); and, in a tie, improve data privacy-related negotiations; and expand to new geographic regions/countries (both with 27.7%).

According to Luciano Saboia, manager of Telecommunications Research and Consulting at IDC Brazil, the study helps to conclude on the pragmatism of the application of technology in Brazilian companies, in an initiative that enhances the generation of new revenues. “The study shows that the maintenance or expansion of the IT budget is pointed out by more than 80% of the companies, confirming the optimism of the market in relation to the future”, he says.

The survey was conducted by IDC with 80 decision makers or influencers of IT management in organizations.
