Mexico's SCT to invest US$7.4bn in transport infra

Mexico's transport and communications ministry (SCT) will invest 100bn pesos (US$7.4bn) to improve transport infrastructure as a means to boost economic activity in the southeast region.

Future works planned for Campeche state in the Yucatán peninsula include 11 rural and feeder road projects totaling 113.5km.

Upgrade works in the state ports of Carmen and Seybaplaya are due to be completed in December 2015 following investments of 1.1bn pesos and 188.4mn pesos, respectively.

Works to expand and rehabilitate the Campeche loop, covering 26.3km at a cost of 1.7bn pesos, are 70% complete and due to be finished in mid-2015, said SCT minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza in a release.

In related news, SCT said that a consortium led by Alstom and OHL was awarded the contract to supply rolling stock for line No. 3 of the Guadalajara light rail system.
