MINEM celebrates the publication of the VIII National Transparency Report EITI Peru

This Minem release was published using machine translation.

The EITI is an international alliance made up of 57 countries that brings together governments, extractive companies (mining, oil and gas) and civil society to make transparent the payments that companies make to governments, in order to verify adequate accountability and that the resources obtained from the extractive activity promote the development of the member countries.

After its incorporation in 2005 and a work of more than 17 years, Peru was suspended in April 2022 by the EITI International, due to a delay in the presentation of the National Transparency Report corresponding to the years 2019 and 2020; Therefore, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) requested an extension to submit said report before the end of the year.

The commitment of MINEM was given with the purpose of preparing the VIII National Transparency Report 2019-2020, under the guidelines and the quality of information that a product of this nature deserves; being prepared by an independent consultant and approved by the EITI Peru Permanent Multisectoral Commission, made up of representatives of the State, civil society and extractive companies.

In this sense, after having completed the preparation of the VIII National Transparency Report (2019-2020) and with the approval of the Permanent Multisectoral Commission, on December 30, MINEM published the VIII Report on the EITI Peru website ( https ://eitiperu.minem.gob.pe/ ); likewise, the Technical Secretariat of EITI Peru sent a letter to the president of EITI International presenting the report and requesting the lifting of the suspension.

It should be noted that for the preparation of the VIII Report there was the voluntary participation of mining and hydrocarbon companies; the accompaniment of the Permanent Multisectoral Commission and the support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), and the institutions: SUNAT, PERUPETRO, INGEMMET, OSINERGMIN, OEFA, ANA and Activos Mineros.

Likewise, it is important to point out that Peru is the pioneer country in the world in implementing EITI Regional Commissions, currently having five active regional commissions (Loreto, Moquegua, Arequipa, Piura and Apurímac), which are monitored and provide advice. for the development of its functions and publication of its corresponding studies.

In addition, along the same lines, the MINEM during this year has been in charge of promoting the initiative to more regions, achieving that four regional commissions are in the process of implementation (La Libertad, Cusco, Áncash and Cajamarca).

Finally, MINEM considers that the continuity of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative - EITI is a pillar that will contribute to promoting transparency in the extractive sector and the development of the country; For this reason, we ratify the commitment assumed by the country to promote transparency in the sector.
