More than eight thousand people participated in the Socialization Process of the Intracampos Oil Round II

Between April and June 2022, the socialization of the Intracampos II Oil Round was developed with the participation of 8,495 people, in fifty community assemblies and five meetings with local indigenous authorities and leaders, from the province of Sucumbíos.

For this personal process of the Undersecretariat for Territory and Environmental Monitoring of this State Portfolio, together with the consulting company Antroprojects, they implemented a community dialogue strategy developed in 3 phases: the rapprochement phase, the socialization phase, and the community assembly phase.

The Minister of Energy and Mines, Xavier Vera Grunauer, expressed that these spaces for dialogue are a mechanism that democratizes relations between citizens and the Ecuadorian State at its different levels of Government. "There was information on the procedures for exploration and development of the areas to be tendered because the objective is to responsibly incorporate new oil reserves, under an open, competitive and transparent bidding model on a national and international scale," added the Minister.

The strategy of direct, door-to-door dialogue and dissemination through local media and social networks was addressed to members of indigenous, mestizo and settler communes, communities, peoples and nationalities, who live in the areas of influence of the 6 oil blocks to tender: Tetete Sur, Saywa, Tamya, VHR Oeste, VHR Este and Lumbaqui, located north of Sucumbíos.

Paola Monar , president of the Nuevos Horizontes pre-cooperative of the Shushufindi canton, supports this dialogue process. “ This is a process with a before and after, where the collective interest prevails, because the resources generated from oil exploitation energize Sucumbíos and the country.”

The companies that are designated for the development of the new blocks must comply with the environmental licensing process, prior to carrying out the hydrocarbon activities in accordance with current environmental legislation.

The Government of the Meeting, through the Ministry of Energy and Mines, reiterates its commitment to generate spaces for dialogue, making the exercise of direct and transparent citizen participation a reality.
