Panama City metro line No. 3 tender set for 2017

Metro de Panamá will launch a tender in 2017 for the project to construct Panama City metro line No. 3, the entity revealed on its Twitter account.

The metro rail-system will cover nearly 26km, connecting the Albrook bus terminal station in southwestern Panama City to the Ciudad del Futuro community, in the Arraiján district.

Metro line no. 3 will cross the Panama Canal using dedicated lanes on what will be the fourth bridge over the waterway, and the government is also planning to connect the line with a light rail transit system to bring the infrastructure further into the country's interior.

Panama's President Juan Carlos Varela is expected to travel to Japan in April to sign a financing agreement with JICA for the metro line no. 3. Japanese railway manufacturer Hitachi is also said to have the monorail model that Metro de Panamá plans to use, according to BNamericas' project profile database.

In related news, Metro de Panamá said that construction on the Panama City metro line no. 2 had reached a completion mark of 10% at the end of February.
