Peru seeks to outlaw abuse on social networks

Peruvian congressman Clayton Galván has proposed a bill to regulate inappropriate use of social networks.

The bill would center on the crime of defamation, using social networks to cause injury to a person’s reputation or infringe on fundamental rights.

Persons found guilty of the crime could face up to two years in prison or heavy fines.

Peru has 18mn internet users.
