Claro pays for 3G, 4G spectrum

Mexico's América Móvil unit Claro has paid US$281mn for additional 3G and 4G spectrum in Argentina, awarded in the auction held October 31, telecoms department Secom said in a statement.

For 3G services, Claro was awarded six blocks of frequency in the 1,892.5-1,895MHz, 1,972.5-1,975MHz, 1870-1,875MHz, 1,950-1,955MHz, 1,867.5-1,870MHz and 1,947.5-1,950MHz bands.

For 4G, Claro was awarded a national license for two bands: 1,720-1,730MHz and 2,120-2,130MHz.

Secom also awarded 4G mobile spectrum to Telefónica's local unit Movistar, and to Telecom Personal, the mobile unit of Telecom Argentina.
