Quito preps US$160mn potable water and sanitation tenders
Quito's public water and sanitation company Epmaps is planning to launch tenders involving investments of US$163mn next year.
The respective projects must be carried out within six years.
Works are part of the city’s US$210mn potable water and sewerage program, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Spanish development fund Fonprode, and Epmaps.
Epmaps technical adviser Cecilia Gárate confirmed to BNamericas that 93% of the resources will go toward expanding and improving potable water systems in Quito’s metropolitan district, 5.5% to sewerage and sanitation overall, and the rest is for administration, evaluation and auditing projects.

Gárate said the program also targets the potable water system of the Calderón area. The US$50mn Puembo-Calderón pipeline is expected to be tendered in January, the Calderón treatment plant in February, and the distribution network in May.
A tender was launched in early December for the US$58mn section 1 of the Paluguillo-Bellavista project, which is also part of the Calderón system. Offers can be submitted until February 3.
Other plans include an expansion of the Bellavista and El Troje potable water treatment plants, new interceptors and sewage treatment plants in the Checa and La Merced areas, and the construction of 1.8km of interceptors to channel sewage to the Quitumbe treatment plant.
These works will by tendered at the end of 2022.
