US$280mn Panama viaduct to be ready in 2024

Panama's US$280mn, 4.5km La Pesa elevated viaduct will be ready in 2024.

Local media reported public works minister Rafael Sabonge as saying that work is 27% complete and some US$122mn of total capex spent.

The viaduct will be exclusively for small vehicles, while busses and trucks must use the four lanes on ground level.

Initially, the viaduct in La Chorrera district was part of a Pan-American highway expansion and planned as a 32.7km link between La Espiga and Santa Cruz, demanding over US$600mn.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei) will provide US$140mn.
