3 groups vying for Petrobras gas processing works

Three companies submitted bids in a Petrobras tender for the remaining construction works for a new natural gas processing unit (UPGN) in Rio de Janeiro state.

The lowest bid, of 597mn reais (US$114mn), was submitted by IFM Construções e Montagens Industriais.

The other offers were presented by Toyo Setal Empreendimentos (688mn reais) and Heftos Óleo e Gás Construções (1bn reais).

The contract involves the provision of civil construction services, electromechanical assembly, interconnections, commissioning, pre-operation, start-up and assisted operation.

Meanwhile, Brazil’s federal oil company is carrying out a contracting process to conclude the executive engineering project of UPGN, which is part of the Gaslub hub in Itaboraí.

Both auctions were launched by Petrobras after the demobilization of the workforce of special purpose company Kerui-Método, which was responsible for the works.

With processing capacity of 21Mm3/d (million cubic meters per day), the new infrastructure is key to increasing the flow of gas produced from the pre-salt fields off Brazil’s southeast coast.

The fuel will be transported to UPGN via the Rota 3 pipeline, which has already been constructed.

After being processed at UPGN, the gas will be taken to the national grid through the Itaboraí-Guapimirim (Gasig) pipeline, which is being built by Nova Transportadora do Sudeste (NTS).
