Argentina OK’s IDB financing for border pass works
Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri issued a decree authorizing the finance ministry to sign a US$324mn loan contract with the IDB for infrastructure improvements at the Cristo Redentor border pass linking Mendoza province with Chile’s Valparaíso region.
The operation was first approved by the IDB last year, and the works will include modernizing the Cristo Redentor tunnel (US$51mn), widening the Caracoles tunnel (US$58mn) and rehabilitation and complementary works on a 189km stretch of national route 7 (US$206mn), among other things, the contract shows.
The tender for the Caracoles tunnel is planned for this year. Highway authority Vialidad Nacional has published a draft version of the biding documents, which can be seen here.
The tenders for the Cristo Redentor and route 7 works are expected to be launched in 2022 and 2021, respectively.
