Brazilian, French firms eyeing Paraguay energy sector

Brazilian group Queiroz Galvão has expressed interest in Paraguay’s energy sector, the latter country’s mines and energy department (SSME) reported.

Renewable and alternative energies have drawn attention of the Rio de Janeiro conglomerate which was briefed by SSME officials of investment opportunities, regulatory issues, and demand, among other areas.

Hydrogène de France (HDF Energy) also met with the department, which is part of the public works ministry.

Talks centered on the potential development of a green hydrogen power project in the Chaco region. Paraguay is home to Atome Energy’s Villeta green hydrogen project.

HDF is building such a plant in French Guiana and has been scoping other Latin America and Caribbean markets.

Meanwhile, Paraguay’s state power company Ande declared void prequalification to supervise construction of the 500kV Valenzuela substation project.

The participants were: Consorcio Blue Fenix (Consultora Paraguaya-Unión de Ingenieros Consultores-Ambiente y Territorio-Tecnolatina), Consorcio Esintec (Esin Consultora-Intec), Consorcio Electrocoint (Electroconsult del Paraguay-Consultora en Ingeniería y Técnica Industrial) and Consorcio Elecgrin (Electrosistemas de Servicios-Consultoría Oscar G. Grimaux y Asociados-Ingenec).
