
Brazilian states announce US$110mn infra investments

The Brazilian states of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná will spend 566mn reais (US$108mn) on roads and social infrastructure.
São Paulo plans to invest 435mn reais, of which 377mn reais will go to projects in Itapeva city and surrounding municipalities, as 206mn reais will go to road improvements.
The state will also invest 58.9mn reais in Sumaré and Hortolândia. Of that amount, 35.7mn reais will be for a viaduct to connect both cities, to be built by highways department DER. Works are about to start and will conclude in February 2024, governor Rodrigo Garcia said in a press release.
Rio Grande do Sul will invest 117mn reais in improvement works for Porto Alegre's prison. Expected to be concluded in 12 months, works will advance in two stages, the government said in a press release.
Four modules will be demolished in the first six months, and new ones will be built at the same site. In the second phase, three more modules will be demolished and new ones built. The modernization will create 1,880 places in the prison system.
Paraná will invest 14mn reais in a hospital in Salto do Lontra, of which US$8mn will come from the state and the rest from the municipality.
The complex will house an emergency care unit with over 20 beds. The unit will enable clinical procedures and low complexity surgeries and have gynecology and obstetrics departments.
